GGPoker PA: Everything you need to know
GGPoker is ready to conquer the US market. After a 13 month process, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will review their license application as an Interactive Gaming Manufacturer at the meeting scheduled for February 10, 2021.
GGPoker and the US market
In December 2019, NSUS Group, the parent company of GGPoker, applied to request a license to operate in the Keystone State in the United States.
Now, according to the meeting agenda for February 10, 2021 of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the Bureau of Licensing will review the application and most likely approve it.
However, we should note that NSUS applied for a "Manufacturer license," and they will need to ink a deal with an "Interactive Gaming Certificate Holder." The license that GGPoker will receive has an initial term of 5 years and an initial cost of $10,000, significantly different from the $4M–$12M that the main licensee had to pay to operate.
UPDATE: As expected, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved the NSUS Group license request as a Manufacturer:
What's next?
Recall that Pennsylvania legalized online poker (and gambling in general) in 2018. Since then, several operators like PokerStars, 888Poker, and partypoker have successfully requested licenses to operate. As of February 2021, only PokerStars has launched their services; the other sites are still working on their launch.
The only thing that NSUS can do with a Manufacturer's license is to power another business holding an Operator's license (something unlikely) or requests its own, a process that may take another year or so.
Hence, most likely, GGPoker won't be the next site to start offering online poker in Pennsylvania.
GGPoker PA FAQ
What does it mean for GGPoker to get a PA gambling license?
Although this is only a first step, we consider this a significant development for GGNetwork. After switching from a Curacao License to an Isle of Man License, the site boosted its reliability. Although the PA market is a complex one and may not be as profitable as other ones, it helps the GGPoker's objective to be the world's largest poker network and be ready to conquer the US market.
Will GGPoker PA share traffic with other skins?
No, only people living in Pennsylvania will be able to join the GGPoker PA skin, and traffic won't be shared with any other site of the network. In the future, a shared liquidity market may be created in the US, but not including the rest of the world players.
What would be the minimum age to play in GGPoker PA?
As per the PA state regulation, the minimum age to play will be 21 years and not 18 as in other markets.
When will GGPoker PA open its doors?
After getting the Manufacturer's license (most like February 10), there is still a long road for the site to open its online poker room in Pennsylvania. 888Poker and partypoker were approved several months ago, and they haven't started yet, even with solid partners like WSOP.com or MGM.
Most like we won't see any progress in 2021.
Who is the partner of GGPoker in Pennsylvania?
As we said above, GGPoker needs to partner with one of the twelve casinos in Pennsylvania to launch its online services. It's still unknown which site will work with NSUS, but we already know that Harrah's, Hollywood, Mount Airy, and Valley Forge, already inked deals with other PA licensees.
