Mystery Bounty tournaments at iPoker Network
The first tournaments in the “Mystery Bounty” format appeared in the iPoker Network skins in October 2023. You will learn about the new game mechanics in this article.
Game mechanics
Mystery Bounty is a bounty tournament in which the payout for the “head” of the knocked-out opponent is random.
However, there is a complete set of payments, from the smallest (50% buy-in) to the largest (hundreds of thousands of dollars). The system randomly assigns different rewards to all players, and each time you “knock out” an opponent, you get a prize.
The bounty size does not depend on the player's position in the chip count. The probability of receiving a prize is inversely proportional to its size. The biggest bounty is just one.
On iPoker Network (RedStar Poker, Champion Poker, Betfair Poker, Guts Poker), Mystery Bounty features a classic multi-stage structure:
- Day 1 - several flights. There are a certain number of levels, after which all the remaining players qualify for the final. Players do not receive any payments, including for knockouts. Stacks of one player from different flights are summed up for the next day.
- Day 2 is the final, in which random bounties become available. All participants in the final get into the prize zone. The guarantee of the tournament is divided into two equal parts: one is paid in the form of prizes for knockouts, and the second - for the final places.
Curious fact: iPoker Network timed the launch of Mystery Bounty to the 2nd anniversary of the format. The first tournament with this name and a $2,200 buy-in was played in October 2021 as part of The Wynn Fall Classic series in Las Vegas.
Playing Mystery Bounty
For the convenience of players, the following options are implemented:
- You can use the “Mystery Bounty” filter in the “Format” section.
- In the MTT lobby, there is a chest icon in the legend. All the flights have the letters “D1".
- There is a new “Bounty” tab in the lobby of Day 2, in which the list of available bounties appears after the start of the final.
All tables on Day 2 have a unique design theme. You can't turn it off. Also, the new animation works only in the final stage of the tournaments:
- The total pool of awards and the distribution of prizes at each level are available right after the tournament kicks off. Players do not see the rewards of other opponents, nor their own reward.
- After each knockout, an animation appears highlighting the opponent who was eliminated and then shows which award the winner won. The animation is visible to all players at the table.
In the future, Mystery Bounty tournaments in the iPoker Network rooms may be slightly localized to match the players' needs.
Schedule
For now, Mystery Bounty tournaments are only played during series, but we expect those to be added to the regular MTT grid of the network.
