One of the biggest poker tournaments of the year ended on December 21 at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas: the WPT World Championship. First place went to Long Beach pro Scott Stewart with $2,563,900.
The 2024 World Poker Tour Main Event had no guaranteed prize pool; however, that didn't stop it from collecting 2,392 entries, which created a prize pool of $23,441,600.
The 2024 WPT World Championship Main Event champion was the American pro Scott Stewart, who cashed $2,563,900 to go with a $10,400 buy-in to the same tournament the following year.
Scott is from California and played his first live tournaments 20 years ago. His first win was in 2011, and five years later, he made his first six-figure cash ($105,245), winning the $1,650 The Commerce Poker Series Main Event.
Interestingly, Stewart had two major cashes before triumphing at the WPT by missing the final table.
The player said that his support group, released by his father, gave him the strength to play (the final day lasted more than 8 hours). Scott's mother supported him by watching the livestream from home.

Only two US players made it into the top six of the tournament, as many as the UK players. One of them, Chris Moorman, finished in fourth place in the same tournament last year and took the same spot this year.
Moorman fell to Edward Park when the American got a three-of-a-kind against Chris's QQ.
Before Moorman, the eliminations went like this:
Park eventually finished third after an unsuccessful bluff against Stewart.
In the heads-up against Rob Sherwood, Scott started with a 2:1 chip lead. During the three-and-a-half-hour match, the chip count changed many times.
In a decisive hand, the Englishman went all-in with 66, but his opponent had KK. After this, Rob was down to just 2.5BB going all-in with 73o; Stewart called with TJ, winning the pot and the tournament.
This year, we had the opportunity to revisit Las Vegas to participate in this tournament, thanks to a promotion by the online poker room WPT Global. Although our team had the aura of the best poker affiliate in its favor, and we managed to double our initial stack thanks to several successful bluffs, the cards were not on our side in the decisive hands:
We also had the opportunity to check out the Golden McLaren GTS that ClubWPT Gold gave to one of the lucky (?) winners of the five million dollar freeroll tournament.
In short, the closest we got to the awards was when we walked past the trophies to take some photos.
